We walk the exterior with you first, including the parts you cannot see from the ground, and flag anything that needs repair before it can be painted: soft wood, open seams, failed caulk. Plants, walkways and anything at the base of the house get covered. Prep is the long part of an exterior job and the part you will notice least in the finished result, which is exactly why it matters.
